Ipomoea (Sweet Potato Vine)
×
Color Name: Blackie
Ipomoea Blackie has stunning deep purple, almost black foliage that flows freely over the edge of hanging baskets and combination planters. Blackie also makes a great annual groundcover in the landscape. Blackie is one of the shorter Ipomoeas growing to a height of 6-10 inches, but it can trail up to 72 inches. You may trim or cut back Blackie at any time to keep it in bounds. Grow Blackie in full sun to part shade and watch as it adds spectacular interest to your garden. Blackie is particularly stunning, and contrasts well with bright pink and yellow companions.
Growing Tips: Plant in full sun or partial shade. Average garden soil. Sweet Potatoes require ample moisture and sulk at the first hint of drought.
An application of fertilizer or compost on garden beds and regular fertilization of plants in pots will help ensure the best possible performance. We suggest fertilizing every two weeks during the hot summer months of June, July and August with Maxsea, which you can purchase at Zehr's. When planting in containers, hanging baskets and window boxes, we recommend using our potting soil which is specially formulated for our plants.
