Calamagrostis actiflora (Feather Reed Grass)
×
Color Name: Avalanche
Noted for its variegated foliage, Avalanche is a compact ornamental grass forming a clump of narrow, elegantly arched, creamy-white striped leaves. In summer, it is topped with tall, airy, pinkish-purple feathery plumes which mature to a golden tan color. It holds its variegation well through the heat of the summer. Fast-growing and reliable! A great looking plant for the garden as it provides superb vertical lines. Particularly useful as a backdrop in borders.
Growing Tips: Avalanche prefers sunny, dry conditions. It can be grown in nearly any soil, including heavy clay. Be sure to provide plenty of moisture in extremely hot weather. Cut back to 6 in. in spring before new growth begins.
