Digitalis (Foxglove)
×
Color Name: Dalmatian Purple
A classic of the cottage garden, Foxgloves will wave their spikes in the breeze without staking. Dalmatian Purple features large spikes of outward facing, lilac purple flowers with maroon spotted throats on sturdy, upright stems in early summer. The tall flower spikes with charming tubular flowers add both height and vertical accent to your garden. Digitalis blooms will attract hummingbirds and bees, and the fact that deer do not like the foliage is an added bonus.
Growing Tips: Foxglove prefers acidic, moist, well-drained soil that is enriched with humus. Keeping this plant watered will result in better flowering and healthier foliage. In most climates, partial shade is best, though it will grow in full sun in northern regions.
