Lobularia (Alyssum)
×
Color Name: Lavender Stream
Lobularia Lavender Stream features a wonderfully sweet, honey-like fragrance. This heat-lover grows fast and displays profuse clouds of dainty lavender cushions of flowers. Plants are heat tolerant and will continue to bloom through the summer if kept watered. The scented flower are nice to have near your patio or outdoor seating area.
Growing Tips: Few annual plants can match the heat and drought hardiness of sweet alyssum. The flowering plant has naturalized in the United States and thrives in a wide range of regions. Sweet alyssum flowers are so named for their lively fragrance and are members of the mustard family. Growing sweet alyssum requires well-drained soil with moderate moisture. The plants are tolerant of many types of soils and make a cheerful accent in many situations. Flowers arise in June to October and can be encouraged to rebloom by cutting back spent flowers.
When planting in containers, hanging baskets and window boxes, we recommend using our potting soil which is specially formulated for our plants. An application of a time release fertilizer at the time of planting will help to ensure the best possible performance. Zehr's Osmocote blend is perfect for the job. We also suggest fertilizing every two weeks during the hot summer months of June, July and August with Maxsea, which you can purchase at Zehr's. Begonias, Impatiens and most plants grown for foliage normally do not need as much fertilizer.
