Scaevola (Fan Flower)
×
Color Name: Blue Brilliance
Blue Brilliance Scaevola is a drought and heat tolerant plant that blooms profusely all summer. Low maintenance, strong and vigorous, it even handles windy locations very well. The crisp blue flowers are beautiful small blue fans that cluster together to make an eye-catching statement. Plant in full sun for best results. Blue Brilliance self-cleans so no deadheading is necessary. Blue Brilliance grows 12-20 inches high and can spread and trail up to 28 inches, which makes this an excellent choice for hanging baskets, combination planters and a dazzling ground cover in the landscape.
Growing Tips: You can easily trim salvia to keep the shape or size where you want it. Doing so will encourage it to branch out and become thicker and more full of flowers. Regular watering and fertilizing will keep the plant at maximum color and growth. Once established, salvia is amazingly tough and will tolerate lower levels of food and water. However, severe drought will cause lower leaves to drop. If this happens, give it a quick haircut removing the upper 1/3 of growth. Once it is back to normal moisture levels, it will fill in nicely.
When planting in containers, hanging baskets and window boxes, we recommend using our potting soil which is specially formulated for our plants. An application of a time release fertilizer at the time of planting will help to ensure the best possible performance. Zehr's Osmocote blend is perfect for the job. We also suggest fertilizing every two weeks during the hot summer months of June, July and August with Maxsea, which you can purchase at Zehr's. Begonias, Impatiens and most plants grown for foliage normally do not need as much fertilizer.
