Verbena (Verbena)
Color Name: Lania® Twister™ Hot Lips
This sizzling hot verbena, with large hot pink and white flowers, is sure to put on a dazzling performance in your garden. It is packed with flower power and will enhance any garden setting. The large, bold flowers contrast beautifully with the deep green foliage. It is heat and cold hardy and will bloom well into fall.
Verbenas are outstanding performers, producing large clusters of flowers all season long. They are great in landscapes, window boxes, hanging baskets and containers. In landscapes, they are best used at the front of beds and they function as spillers in combination planters. If you are looking for a colorful annual ground cover, verbena is a great choice.
Growing Tips: Self-cleaning, no deadheading necessary. Verbenas are heat tolerant. While always great in containers they are also fantastic in landscape beds. They can tolerate dry soils and lower fertility. Normally either an application of slow release fertilizer or amending with compost is enough to keep them happy and blooming in landscape beds. They shouldn't need to be trimmed back but can be given a trim using a sharp pair of scissors or pruning shears at any time. While naturally well branched, trimming them back will encourage additional branching, fuller plants, and ultimately more flowers.
When planting in containers, hanging baskets and window boxes, we recommend using our potting soil which is specially formulated for our plants. We suggest fertilizing every two weeks during the hot summer months of June, July and August with Maxsea, which you can purchase at Zehr's.
