Cleome (Spider Flower)
×
Color Name: Lavender Dreams
Lavender Dreams Cleome features open, clusters of 4-petaled, soft lavender flowers with fascinating long stamens that protrude out, giving them a spider-like look. The blossoms rise on thornless, upright stems clothed with palmate green leaves. Lavender Dreams will add a delicate airiness as a thriller in your patio containers.
Growing Tips: Unlike other cleome Lavender Dreams will not self seed, doesn't get bare knees, she isn't sticky and the doesn't have thorns. Her flowers are smaller than classic cleome, but she flowers all over the plant not just at the top. Since she doesn't self seed you don't have to worry about cleome seedlings trying to take over your garden. She is great for adding height to garden beds and had dark green foliage. Deadheading isn't necessary.
When planting in containers, hanging baskets and window boxes, we recommend using our potting soil which is specially formulated for our plants. An application of a time release fertilizer at the time of planting will help to ensure the best possible performance. Zehr's Osmocote blend is perfect for the job. We also suggest fertilizing every two weeks during the hot summer months of June, July and August with Maxsea, which you can purchase at Zehr's. Begonias, Impatiens and most plants grown for foliage normally do not need as much fertilizer.
